Thursday • September 17 • Austin Social Media presents:
Rise Of The South

The South is rising. Not the Confederacy but the rise of Latin American social media and technology practitioners doing great things for the region and the world.

Austin Social Media Club will be hosting some social media luminaries from Latin America who are making a mark on the world.

Speakers:
Mauricio Pastrana, originally from Colombia and now residing in Mexico City. Mauricio is the driving force behind Tequila Valley, among other things. Tequila Valley is not the Silicon Valley of tequila distillery start-ups. Tequila Valley is a social and technological movement in Mexico, modeled after Argentina’s Palermo Valley, that is serving as a catalyst to the next generation of Mexican web developers, designers, writers and social media experts.

Gerardo Dada, sr. director of product marketing at OpenText (formerly Vignette Corporation), who came to the U.S. in 1998, and quickly rose to be a director of product marketing at Microsoft.  While at Microsoft, he was responsible for the Broad Customer Connect initiative that helped thousands of Microsoft mobile app. developers launch their own blogs on Microsoft.com.

Yam de la Peña, an entrepreneur and a business development and expansion consultant, with one foot in Canada and the other foot in Mexico.  Yam is one of the organizers of Twestival Mexico, a social media driven fund-raising event taking place Sept. 12th in Mexico City to raise money for low-income children with cancer.

Rosaura Ochoa, journalist and social media blogger with a passionate fan base.  Rosaura worked for one of Mexico’s largest editorial groups in Chihuahua, México, and  now lives in Minnesota, where she runs her popular blog and speaks on social media issues on a weekly Internet radio program hosted by Plaza Network.

SPECIAL NOTE - New Name, Same Location
Some of you may know that in July Open Text Corporation, a global leader in Enterprise Content Management, announced that it completed the acquisition of all of the issued and outstanding shares of Vignette Corporation. The acquisition has now received approval by Vignette's stockholders.

With its acquisition of Vignette now complete, Open Text is laying the strategic groundwork that will further its position as the independent leader in ECM, with a comprehensive portfolio of Web solutions to meet the broad range of market requirements.

What does that mean for the Austin Social Media Club?  That we owe a big THANK YOU to Open Text for allowing us continued use of the meeting space through 2009. Please join us in thanking them!

Location and Sponsors:
Thank you, Open Text, for providing an awesome location for our events. Also a shout-out to our co-sponsors, Small World Labs and FG Squared who will be providing food and beverages for the year.
